Black Panther Is All About The Women! Get The Deets In Our Review Roundup!

The reviews are in today, and Black Panther is sounding like another solid Marvel Studios entry to some — and something much more to others. First, absolutely glowing [...] The reviews are in today, and Black Panther is sounding like another solid Marvel Studios entry to some -- and something much more to others. So what do the range of positive words (at the time of this writing, the film holds a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 51 reviews counted) have in common? First, absolutely glowing reviews for the production design (Hannah Beachler), costumes (Ruth E. Carter), and cinematography (Rachel Morrison). Video: Kendrick Lamar & The Weeknd Bless Us With New Black Panther Song Pray For Me And the supporting cast, including Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, and villain Michael B. Jordan, are consistently lauded as standouts. While this is mostly a good thing, especially for women's representation in the world of superhero movies -- some feel Chadwick Boseman's stoic lead is in danger of being overshadowed by everyone else... See what critics had to say (below): Jason Gerrasio, Business Insider: "Like "Wonder Woman" last year, "Black Panther" is a project that fans have been waiting decades to see. And just like "Wonder Woman," it was worth the wait." Liz Braun, Toronto Sun: "Black Panther is every bit as good as you were hoping. Actually -- it's better. A terrific screenplay from Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole elevates this thing way beyond the usual boundaries of the Marvel Universe." Jake Coyle, AP: "Just as he did in the surprisingly sensational Rocky reboot "Creed," Coogler hasn't reinvented the genre so much as electrified it with a new perspective and a rare talent for marrying naturalistic character development with spectacle muscle." Haleigh Foutch, Collider: "Black Panther isn't just a crowd-pleasing superhero movie (though it is that for sure), it's a vital moment in cinema history and a heartfelt, thoughtful exploration of the scars of colonialism and the hope for healing." Manohla Dargis, The NY Times: "It's important to the movie's politics and myth-building that he is surrounded by a phalanx of women, among them a battalion of women warriors called the Dora Milaje. These aren't moviedom's irritatingly token strong chicks, the tough babes with sizable biceps and skills but no real roles." Robbie Collin, Telegraph: "Black Panther seems to overcome the genre's long-standing neuroses around creating rounded, exciting roles for women by just getting on with it." Alonso Duralde, TheWrap: "Black Panther does such a great job introducing the fascinating supporting characters in his orbit that it can barely find time to dig into its purported protagonist." Marc Bernardin, Nerdist: "As a nerd and as a black man, I've been waiting for this movie for my entire life, whether I knew it or not. The fact that Black Panther gets so much right, but one crucial thing wrong, is both thrilling and maddening." David Ehrlich, IndieWire: "In making a movie that so lucidly allows one group of people to see themselves on screen, Coogler has created the first Marvel movie in which anyone can see themselves on screen. That's an accomplishment all viewers can appreciate — one that gives new depth to the overarching themes of the MCU, finally grounding this franchise with the kind of stakes that it needs to support its cosmic scale." Jamie Broadnax, BlackGirlNerds: "I left the theater wanting to see this movie at least 10 more times. I already know that Black Panther‘s weight in gold at the box office will be in repeat viewings, because we just won't want this cinematic experience to end." [Image via Marvel.].....»»

The Riverdale star has kept notably tight-lipped about whether or not she and costar Cole Sprouse are dating ever since rumors about the two set off last year. While Lili and Cole have taken vacations together and have been photographed canoodling, the actors have yet to publicly confirm if they're #Bughead irl. Related: Cole Opens Up About His Anxiety! In a new interview with Seventeen, the 21-year-old actress finally explained why she's kept so coy about the speculation: because it's none of your damn business, that's why! She revealed: "Every time someone asks me about it, I make a decision then and there about whether I'm comfortable. It's not like I'm in some kind of contract, but I'm not in the place where I want to talk about it, and that's totally fine." Yup, totally fine to toy with the entire Riverdale fandom. As long as you're comfortable, Lil! The Ohio native added that being a public figure doesn't mean she's obligated to disclose every detail about her private life: "It's called a private life for a reason—it's mine, and it's special and sacred. My relationships are between me and whomever I'm with, not between me and the world." We guess only Lili and Cole know if Lili and Cole are dating -- and Cole is probably just as in the dark as we are. The Suite Life alum told the magazine that his younger years were spent "trying to be perceived as some kind of playboy" when he was actually "someone who spent 90 percent of his day playing video games." Ha! If Lili really is dating Cole, at least we know it's something "sacred." [Image via The CW.].....»»

Joss Whedon Called Out By His Ex-Wife For Having Multiple Affairs & Being A Fake Feminist — "He"s Not Who He Pretends To Be"

Joss Whedon's ex-wife is not holding anything back! Kai Cole, who was with the Avengers screenwriter for 20 years total, is calling out her longtime partner for claiming to be a feminist even though he cheated on her throughout the duration of their 16-year marriage. Kai Cole, who was with the Avengers screenwriter for 20 years total, is calling out her longtime partner for claiming to be a feminist even though he cheated on her throughout the duration of their 16-year marriage. In an essay published in The Wrap, Cole detailed Whedon's "hypocrisy of being out in the world preaching feminist ideals, while at the same time, taking away my right to make choices for my life and my body based on the truth." Related: JAY-Z Gets SUPER Candid About His Met Gala Brawl At the beginning of their relationship, Cole says she was the one who encouraged Whedon to adapt Buffy the Vampire Slayer into a TV show -- which is when the first affair happened: "There were times in our relationship that I was uncomfortable with the attention Joss paid other women. He always had a lot of female friends, but he told me it was because his mother raised him as a feminist, so he just liked women better. He said he admired and respected females, he didn't lust after them. I believed him and trusted him. On the set of Buffy, Joss decided to have his first secret affair." It wasn't until the end of their marriage that Whedon finally told Cole about his infidelity. She recalled: "Fifteen years later, when he was done with our marriage and finally ready to tell the truth, he wrote me, 'When I was running Buffy, I was surrounded by beautiful, needy, aggressive young women. It felt like I had a disease, like something from a Greek myth. Suddenly I am a powerful producer and the world is laid out at my feet and I can't touch it.' But he did touch it. He said he understood, 'I would have to lie — or conceal some part of the truth — for the rest of my life,' but he did it anyway, hoping that first affair, 'would be ENOUGH, that THEN we could move on and outlast it.'" But instead, Cole says Whedon "hid multiple affairs and a number of inappropriate emotional ones that he had with his actresses, co-workers, fans and friends, while he stayed married to me." Not only did Whedon lie to Cole, he was lying to the world -- she went on: "He never conceded the hypocrisy of being out in the world preaching feminist ideals, while at the same time, taking away my right to make choices for my life and my body based on the truth. He deceived me for 15 years, so he could have everything he wanted. I believed, everyone believed, that he was one of the good guys, committed to fighting for women's rights, committed to our marriage, and to the women he worked with. But I now see how he used his relationship with me as a shield, both during and after our marriage, so no one would question his relationships with other women or scrutinize his writing as anything other than feminist." She concluded: "Until recently, Joss was still letting the illusion of our marriage stay intact. Now that it is finally public, I want to let women know that he is not who he pretends to be. I want the people who worship him to know he is human, and the organizations giving him awards for his feminist work, to think twice in the future about honoring a man who does not practice what he preaches. But no matter what happens, or how people interpret this statement, I no longer have to carry the burden of Joss' long-term deceit and confessions. I am free." Wow! Joss' camp responded to his ex's claims to The Wrap with the statement: "While this account includes inaccuracies and misrepresentations which can be harmful to their family, Joss is not commenting, out of concern for his children and out of respect for his ex-wife." Interesting. Thoughts on this??? SOUND OFF in the comments (below)! [Image via WENN.].....»»

Sellers’ most accessible work, however, comes from his fruitful collaboration with director Blake Edwards, and on June 27 Shout! Factory is releasing the 6-disc Blu-ray set The Pink Panther Collection as part of its Shout Select line. As part of the Shout Select line, the collection contains the films The Pink Panther, A Shot In The Dark, The Return of the Pink Panther, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Revenge of the Pink Panther and Trail of the Pink Panther. With Sellers’ passing in 1980, Trail of the Pink Panther (released in 1982) features footage of Sellers (he and Edwards were working on another Panther film before he passed) that’s interwoven into the movie. The collection comes with a 24-page book with an essay from film critic Jerry Beck plus new interviews with cast and crew, audio commentaries, still galleries and TV spots. Though it would have been great to have included 1983’s Curse of the Pink Panther, which centered on the disappearance of Clouseau, the franchise will always be known as Edwards and Sellers’ creative journey, so the omission is definitely understandable.
