Black Panther Is All About The Women! Get The Deets In Our Review Roundup!

The reviews are in today, and Black Panther is sounding like another solid Marvel Studios entry to some — and something much more to others. First, absolutely glowing [...] The reviews are in today, and Black Panther is sounding like another solid Marvel Studios entry to some -- and something much more to others. So what do the range of positive words (at the time of this writing, the film holds a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 51 reviews counted) have in common? First, absolutely glowing reviews for the production design (Hannah Beachler), costumes (Ruth E. Carter), and cinematography (Rachel Morrison). Video: Kendrick Lamar & The Weeknd Bless Us With New Black Panther Song Pray For Me And the supporting cast, including Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, and villain Michael B. Jordan, are consistently lauded as standouts. While this is mostly a good thing, especially for women's representation in the world of superhero movies -- some feel Chadwick Boseman's stoic lead is in danger of being overshadowed by everyone else... See what critics had to say (below): Jason Gerrasio, Business Insider: "Like "Wonder Woman" last year, "Black Panther" is a project that fans have been waiting decades to see. And just like "Wonder Woman," it was worth the wait." Liz Braun, Toronto Sun: "Black Panther is every bit as good as you were hoping. Actually -- it's better. A terrific screenplay from Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole elevates this thing way beyond the usual boundaries of the Marvel Universe." Jake Coyle, AP: "Just as he did in the surprisingly sensational Rocky reboot "Creed," Coogler hasn't reinvented the genre so much as electrified it with a new perspective and a rare talent for marrying naturalistic character development with spectacle muscle." Haleigh Foutch, Collider: "Black Panther isn't just a crowd-pleasing superhero movie (though it is that for sure), it's a vital moment in cinema history and a heartfelt, thoughtful exploration of the scars of colonialism and the hope for healing." Manohla Dargis, The NY Times: "It's important to the movie's politics and myth-building that he is surrounded by a phalanx of women, among them a battalion of women warriors called the Dora Milaje. These aren't moviedom's irritatingly token strong chicks, the tough babes with sizable biceps and skills but no real roles." Robbie Collin, Telegraph: "Black Panther seems to overcome the genre's long-standing neuroses around creating rounded, exciting roles for women by just getting on with it." Alonso Duralde, TheWrap: "Black Panther does such a great job introducing the fascinating supporting characters in his orbit that it can barely find time to dig into its purported protagonist." Marc Bernardin, Nerdist: "As a nerd and as a black man, I've been waiting for this movie for my entire life, whether I knew it or not. The fact that Black Panther gets so much right, but one crucial thing wrong, is both thrilling and maddening." David Ehrlich, IndieWire: "In making a movie that so lucidly allows one group of people to see themselves on screen, Coogler has created the first Marvel movie in which anyone can see themselves on screen. That's an accomplishment all viewers can appreciate — one that gives new depth to the overarching themes of the MCU, finally grounding this franchise with the kind of stakes that it needs to support its cosmic scale." Jamie Broadnax, BlackGirlNerds: "I left the theater wanting to see this movie at least 10 more times. I already know that Black Panther‘s weight in gold at the box office will be in repeat viewings, because we just won't want this cinematic experience to end." [Image via Marvel.].....»»

Disney announced on Tuesday it would be greatly expanding the presence of its most consistent movie brand with Marvel-based rides at three locations: Disneyland Resort, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland. In Anaheim, GOTG -- Mission: BREAKOUT! will be joined by Spider-Man and Avengers attractions. The A Bug's Life 3-D experience, "It's Tough to Be a Bug," has already closed to make room for the superhero takeover. Photos: Disney Rides & Attractions That Inspired Movies! In Paris, the centerpiece will be a new Iron Man ride, and Hong Kong Disneyland will have an Ant-Man and The Wasp attraction -- which we hope means giant Hello Kitty PEZ candy dispensers! Get all the info in the full press release (below)! "Highly anticipated new experiences at Disneyland Resort, Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland will soon invite guests to become part of a bigger universe filled with epic heroes and adventures, and today we're sharing a sneak peek! Developed in partnership with Marvel Studios and Marvel Themed Entertainment, these three new areas will champion the next generation of Super Heroes. At Disneyland Resort, the new Super Hero-themed land will begin recruiting guests in 2020, with even more new experiences to follow. The Guardians of the Galaxy will be joined by Spider-Man and the Avengers in what will become a completely immersive Super Hero universe, furthering the evolution of Disney California Adventure park. This new land will be anchored by the popular Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, in the adjacent space that is currently occupied by "a bug's land." "It's Tough to Be a Bug" closed March 19 to make way for this new heroic experience; the rest of the land will close in late summer. As part of the transformative multi-year expansion announced for Disneyland Paris, the new Marvel-themed area at Walt Disney Studios Park will include a reimagined attraction where riders will team up with Iron Man and their favorite Avengers on a hyper-kinetic adventure in 2020. This will follow an epic experience launching this summer, when Disneyland Paris hosts Marvel Summer of Super Heroes from June 10 to September 30. Favorite heroes will take the stage for a brand new, live-action super-production featuring cutting-edge special effects and spectacular projections. Multi-year expansion plans are also underway at Hong Kong Disneyland, including a new themed area that will include an exciting attraction where guests team up with Ant-Man and The Wasp. This new attraction will join the Iron Man Experience, which opened in 2017 and is already the most popular attraction at the resort. The movie is hitting theaters at midnight, and we’ll finally be able to see the highly anticipated film, which stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. Be sure to check out Black Panther, in theaters tonight at midnight! There are spoilers ahead, so read at your own risk! Click inside to see what happens after the Black Panther credits… There are two scenes after the movie ends. The first hits mid-credits. The scene takes place at the United Nations in Vienna, where T’Challa (aka Black Panther) shares with the council that Wakanda will be more open and will begin to share their knowledge and resources. The scene ends with one of the council members asking what resources they have to offer. T’Challa then smirks. Of course, this must refer to Vibranium, a very powerful material. Black Panther’s suit and Captain America’s shield are both made of Vibranium, and in addition, Vibranium is what Ultron was collecting which ultimately made Vision (played by Paul Bettany). The second scene takes place at the end of the credits in a remote hut in Wakanda. We see Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier) wake up and emerge out of a tent and speak to T’Challa’s sister, Shuri and thank her. During this scene, the kids of Wakanda refer him as the “White Wolf.” The last time we saw Bucky was in a mid-credits scene after Captain America: Civil War. He was in a lab in Wakanda where he agreed to be placed in cryogenic stasis. Captain America thanked T’Challa for looking after Bucky and T’Challa said he’ll be safe in Wakanda. FYI: In the comics, the “White Wolf” was actually a character named Hunter, an orphaned boy that T’Challa’s father raised. The film ends saying that Black Panther will return in Avengers: Infinity War......»»

I instinctively picked up [that Shuri] had something meaningful to say” Lupita on why Black Panther appealed to her: “Well, when Black Panther was announced about two years ago, Chadwick [Boseman] was signed on to play T’Challa, and I remember thinking, ‘Oh, snap, that’s going to be a moment!’ So when director Ryan Coogler started to talk to me about being a part of it, I was so excited….It had social and political relevance. My character, Nakia, was a departure from the character you see in the comic books. She’s this independent woman, super patriotic but also very questioning of her society, and I liked that. With her complicated relationship with T’Challa, I knew it was going to be kind of sexy, and I was like, ‘OK, I definitely want in.’” For more from the ladies, visit TeenVogue.com!.....»»
