The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania decided to release the 30-year-old rapper from prison on Tuesday, overruling Judge Genece Brinkley's widely criticized decision to keep him behind bars. Judge Brinkley denied Meek bail last week after prosecutors asked her to overturn his 2-4 year prison conviction because of a police corruption case involving Meek's arresting officer, Reginald Graham. Related: YouTuber Jake Paul Sued For $2.5 Million! Many were outraged by the judge's decision -- including, apparently, the justices of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, who released Meek with no bail, pending a hearing in about 60 days to possibly dismiss the conviction. The justices refused to dismiss Judge Brinkley from the case, but said she "may opt to remove herself from presiding over this matter." The All Eyez on You rapper is counting his blessings following his release after months of fighting to get out from behind bars. He shared on Twitter: I’d like to thank God, my family, and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time. While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive. — Meek Mill (@MeekMill) April 24, 2018 To the Philly District Attorney’s office, I’m grateful for your commitment to justice. I understand that many people of color across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues. — Meek Mill (@MeekMill) April 24, 2018 In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career. — Meek Mill (@MeekMill) April 24, 2018 We bet he's hungry to get back to work! Meek's lawyer, Joe Tacopina -- who previously called out Judge Brinkley for allegedly making inappropriate comments, like asking the rapper for a shout-out on a song he was doing with Nicki Minaj, during court proceedings -- told TMZ that Meek was "unjustly convicted and should not have spent a single day in jail," adding: "Meek is excited to be reunited with his family, and we, along with Meek, intend to continue to shine the light on a justice system in need of reform to prevent any other citizen from being put through what Meek has endured." As we reported, the rapper was convicted last November for violating probation from his 2008 drug and weapons case after getting busted for a St. Louis airport fight and a reckless driving arrest. Meek Mill Gets Warm Welcome At 76ers Game In Philly Hours After His Prison Release — But He"s Not Totally Off The Hook Yet!

Hours after he was released from prison on Tuesday, Meek Mill rung the ceremonial bell before the start of Game 5 of the Philadelphia 76ers — Miami Heat playoff series in Philly! Sixers co-owner Michael Rubin personally picked up the rapper from the slammer just before 7 p.m. and drove him to the arena, where he was the team's VIP guest. Rubin had visited Meek while he was incarcerated over the past few months for violating his probation. As we reported, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered to release the 30-year-old from prison on Tuesday, overruling Judge Genece Brinkley's widely-criticized decision to keep him behind bars. Related: JAY-Z, Rihanna, & More React To Meek's Prison Release Due to claims from Meek's team that Judge Brinkley had been unfair to the rapper during the trial, the justices added that she "may opt to remove herself from presiding over this matter." But Judge Brinkley insists on seeing this to the bitter end. Her lawyer, A. Charles Peruto, Jr., told TMZ that the judge will not remove herself from Meek's drugs and weapons case, and doesn't feel the Supreme Court contradicted her rulings when it ordered that the rapper go free without bail, pending the next hearing in June. The judge insists she holds no grudge against the rapper and has been fair from the start, and will continue to give Meek a fair trial during the hearing. This will determine if the drug and weapons case should be thrown out because of a police corruption case involving his arresting officer, Reginald Graham. Peruto said that Judge Brinkley will not necessarily side with Meek's lawyer, who wants the case thrown out due to the testimony of a crooked cop, because other officers have also testified in the case. So, if their credibility holds up, the judge might not overturn the conviction after all. As we previously reported, on Tuesday, the 30-year-old rapper was released from prison after serving almost five months behind bars for violating probation. His release comes thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's ruling that he should be granted bail and his legal team's Post Conviction Relief Act petition for freedom. I always had confidence it was going this way, but I didn't know when it would happen and I'd be free. It looked like it was going to take months more." We can only imagine how crazy this whole experience has been for Meek. In regards to how he prepared for his exit from prison, Mill continued: "I was in my cell and I was watching the news, and they said I'm free. I immediately said a quick prayer, and got ready to go." Although his release was swift, Meek is currently living in the moment. In the interview, which took place prior to the playoff game, the Philadelphia native relayed: "We are on to see the Sixers game, and it's going to be a big night for Philly. The team is going to advance, and I came home." And he was right, as the Sixers won their game and are moving on to the next round of the NBA playoffs! Looks like things are SERIOUSLY looking up for Meek! As always, we're keeping Meek in our thoughts as he prepares for round two of his legal woes. [Image via WENN.].....»»
