Laurieann Gibson Spills ALL THE TEA About Why She Stopped Working With Lady GaGa: "I Think Some Artists Lose Their Way"

It's been five years since Laurieann Gibson has worked with Lady GaGa — it's also been five years since the pop star has released a decent album, according to the choreographer! The industry vet dropped stopped by Hollywood Unlocked last week and dropped some jewels about why she parted ways with the Born This Way singer [...] It's been five years since Laurieann Gibson has worked with Lady GaGa -- it's also been five years since the pop star has released a decent album, according to the choreographer! The industry vet dropped stopped by Hollywood Unlocked last week and dropped some jewels about why she parted ways with the Born This Way singer during her ascent into superstardom. Speaking on the details of their falling out for the very first time, Gibson explained things got "sticky" after she wrote and directed Gaga's The Monster Ball -- because that's when the singer took on "the drug of fame." Related: GaGa Subpoenaed In Dr. Luke Defamation Case But what really led to the downfall of their creative partnership was Gibson's refusal to always say "yes" to other collaborators when she felt it wasn't right. The creative director started from the beginning, revealing she met GaGa before her Just Dance days right after being fired from Making the Band by Diddy. She remembered: "Many people don't know that I met her [Gaga] unsigned before she recorded Just Dance and developed her for years before all the music was made and when no one was looking." Gibson went on to talk about her influence on GaGa's early career, even crediting herself for creating the pop singer's image. She continued: "I saw someone that was broken. When you have a dream and you know that if you don't acquire this dream that you're going to cease to exist. It's a different kind of pain, a different kind of hope that comes from an artist's eyes. I was in the same place, I'm truly an artist myself so when I see that what I do is fight for an artist. I pull a vision out. It's very difficult when you're the one carrying the vision even when the artist can't see it and nobody around them sees it. She was fearless enough to listen to everything that my gift required and allowed me to be free to create." After collaborating on the mega-successful albums The Fame and The Fame Monster, Gibson said that's when "The Fame Monster" really manifested in the form of the music business -- which drove a wedge in her relationship with the performer. Photo: GaGa Goes Gaga Over The Total Solar Eclipse! Alluding to some dark shit, she explained: "When this business gets you to a certain place, the fame is a drug. And there's actually a time when you see the drug operate and you have a moment to make a decision as an artist. If you drink that kool-aid and if you take on that drug of fame, you're going to have to live that out. I think some artists lose their way." And when an artist loses their way, that's when the choreographer parts ways! Gibson said she could no longer fight to keep the creative freedom she needed to directing GaGa's shows, which ultimately let to her departure. She recounted: "It got sticky to be oppressed and to be a black woman behind a white female and not have the freedom to continue to do what I did everyday, creatively, every show, every step and have the respect. So, I couldn't fight anymore. I couldn't fight everyone that was intimidated or affected by my gift and the fact that I'm a black woman, the fact that I'm not going to say yes when it's not right. I'm not going to allow my artist to set their pussy on fire... Once you stop my collaboration from being honest then I have to leave." Looking back, Gibson is thankful she got to be a part of GaGa's earlier work as opposed to her, um… more recent efforts. She sneered: "Professionally speaking, I love and am grateful for the work that I've done... I'm just glad to not be apart of when an artist isn't doing so well." Ouch! We guess someone didn't love Joanne... Watch Laurieann's interview (below) to hear her talk more about GaGa's "choices," Making The Band, her new Lifetime show, and more! [Image via YouTube.].....»»

Pennywise The Clown Drags Down "The Losers Club" In The Still-Terrifying It Remake — Review Roundup!

But based on the first viewings of the It remake, the iconic demon was the least impressive part of the Warner Bros. adaptation! Overall, critics enjoyed Andy Muschietti's take on the horror classic -- specifically, the dynamic of the film's core group, The Losers Club. The friendships and banter of the fearful heroes will satisfy audiences craving some ‘80s nostalgia a la Stand By Me, The Goonies, and Stranger Things. QUIZ: What Type Of Horror Movie Is Your Life? But Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise had many critics covering their eyes -- not out of fear, but because of a cartoonish, cinematic intensity many felt was a clown-step in the wrong direction from Tim Curry's terrifying version. Though 2017 Pennywise still had his truly petrifying moments, and the demon's other disturbing incarnations sprinkled throughout the R-rated film will make most fans float with a joyful fear. See what the critics had to say (below)! Andrew Barker, Variety: "Focusing entirely on the childhood-set portions of King's book, it's a collection of alternately terrifying, hallucinatory, and ludicrous nightmare imagery; a sometimes jarring pileup of moods, ranging from haunted house horror to nostalgic hangout humor; a popcorn movie about gruesome child murders; a series of well-crafted yet decreasingly effective suspense setpieces; and a series of well-acted coming-of-age sequences that don't quite fully mature." Hillary Busis, Vanity Fair: "When It's seven-core performers are arguing about the merits of loogie mass vs. distance or bashfully exploring their first flashes of puppy love, It is a delight. Every member of the gang that comes to call themselves the Losers' Club is natural and charismatic, especially the luminous [Sophia] Lillis as Beverly, the only girl in the group, and [Finn] Wolfhard, whose wisecracking Richie easily walks away with the movie." Matt Goldberg, Collider: "The film almost seems afraid to really let Skarsgard shine with Pennywise because he might overshadow the Losers. There are a few scenes where he really gets to let loose, but he's stuck in a pattern—It is the predator, and the kids are his prey. The creature is only motivated by hunger and a need to feed on fear. That's not particularly interesting, and while you can get some frightening images out of his creations, the heart of the movie needs to be the characters who can grow and change, the Losers." Eric Kohn, IndieWire: "Things pop up from the shadows right on cue. The clown cackles aplenty, mashes his awful teeth, and wiggles his eyebrows. As the kids discuss It's legacy, ominous music sets in to underscore their tales. Repeat. Though gorgeously shot by [cinematographer] Chung-hoon Chung, no amount of stunning visuals can rescue It from the thud of familiarity." John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter: "It is a solid thriller that works best when it is most involved in its adolescent heroes' non-monster-related concerns. It will prove much more satisfying to King's legion of fans than [Dark Tower] did. But it falls well short of the King-derived film it clearly wants to evoke, Stand By Me; and newcomers who were spoiled by the eight richly developed hours of Stranger Things may wonder what the big deal is supposed to be." Chris Nashaway, EW: "It is essentially two movies. The better by far (and it's very good) is the one that feels like a darker Stand by Me — a nostalgic coming-of-age story about seven likable outcasts riding around on their bikes and facing their fears together... Less successful are the sections that trot out Pennywise. The more we see of him, the less scary he becomes. Unless you're really afraid of clowns, he just seems kind of cartoony after a while." Dan Callahan, The Wrap: "Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise has yellow eyes that are always slightly staring off to the sides. His whitened forehead is very large, which makes this Pennywise look more like a toy than a man. A lot of the time in this version of "It," Pennywise feels more like an effect than a person, and sometimes this is a problem, because a visual effect is too distanced from us to be as scary as Curry was using just his made-up clown face and his growling voice." Katie Rife, A.V. Club: "While Pennywise is legitimately terrifying, overall, It is more intense than it is chilling. No punches are pulled in depicting graphic violence against children, meaning this movie may be too much for even the most Stephen King-obsessed middle schoolers. But aside from the periodic surfacing of Bill Denbrough's younger brother Georgie—whose death at the hands (or teeth, as the case may be) of Pennywise kicks off the plot—the anxiety is more brief and pummeling than slow and creeping." It hits theaters September 8. [Image via Warner Bros..].....»»

Sinead O"Connor Sparks Concern For Her Well-Being After Admitting Online That She Is Suicidal & Living In A Motel

Sinead O'Connor had friends REALLY worried at the end of last week when she took to Facebook and posted a video where she claimed she was suicidal and living in a motel in New Jersey. Oh no! Related: Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her 90-Day Break From Fame Per the Irish singer's video, Sinead explained that she has been living alone for two years and has been battling with three mental illnesses. Apparently, the Nothing Compares 2 U artist has been residing at a New Jersey-based Travelodge. (Side note: A different report claims there is no record of Sinead staying at the motel in South Hackensack, NJ.) While fighting back tears, O'Connor also called out her family for pushing her away amid her mental health struggles. The controversial A-lister noted: "Suddenly, all the people who are supposed to be loving you or taking care of you treat you like shit... If it was me, I'd be gone, straight away back to my mom." Intense stuff. Nonetheless, the 50-year-old says she hopes her video will be "somehow helpful" to the "millions of millions of millions of people who are just like [her]." She continued: "Why are we alone? People who suffer from mental illness are the most vulnerable people on Earth. You've got to take care of us. We're not like everybody.... I just want to make this video so you all could see what the fuck it's like. It's the stigma that's killing people, not the mental fucking illnesses... If you have a family member that suffers from mental illness, care for them, tenderness, love, care for them. Visit them in the hospital, don't dump them in the hospital and bugger off." Thankfully, Sinead's loved ones have since reached out to the chart topper as a pal took to her social media on Monday evening and wrote: "Hi everybody, I am posting at Sinead's request, to let everyone who loves her know she is safe, and she is not suicidal. She is surrounded by love and receiving the best of care. She asked for this to be posted knowing you are concerned for her. I won't respond to any questions, so please understand. I hope this comforts those of you were concerned." We're glad to hear that Sinead is getting the help she needs, especially since this isn't her first mental health scare in recent years. In case you forgot, back in 2016, O'Connor's son Jake Reynolds reported her as missing. The alternative rock guru was later found at a hotel and hospitalized. Our thoughts are with Sinead and her loved ones during this tough time. [Image via Facebook.].....»»

The Oscar-winning actress has written a lengthy op-ed piece for The New York Times, in which she opens up about how she met Weinstein years before breaking out onto the scene with 12 Years a Slave. Lupita first met Weinstein at an event in Berlin in 2011 while she was a student at the Yale School of Drama.
