BREAKING: Winter Olympics Already Tragic Stupid And Boring

We just received breaking news that the Winter Olympics are still a thing and that in record time this year’s event is already tragic stupid and boring. Today marked the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics on the other side of the globe in South Korea, and now we’re now destined for two weeks of terrible sports that no one cares about. Or three weeks. Or one. Nobody knows. Those up at 6 a.m. this morning were able to stream the opening ceremony live, and tonight’s stateside edited broadcast will be at 8:00 p.m. ET. Be sure to watch out for footage of a stadium full of douchebags punctuated by rags to riches stories and fun facts about the host city shared through playful banter between announcers Katie Couric and Mike Tirico. “Now did you hear this Mike, they eat dogs in South Korea and it’s called ‘gaegogi.'” “Yum Katie, I wonder if they call it Gaegogi Style, like the song.” “Oh Mike you’re so funny, fuck me right here.” Up until this morning’s opening ceremony, the biggest news to come out of the 2018 Winter Olympics was the fact that North Korea was going to allow a chain gang of work prisoners to represent their country poorly in various sports. Though when the alternative to winning is getting tortured and killed, you might have a little extra pep in your step. But this is all old news as of now, because during the opening ceremony, team USA – decked out like 2002 frat boys ready for a ski weekend in Gatlinburg, TN. Who stopped by a gas station parking lot to buy novelty fringe Cherokee gloves out of someone’s trunk – stormed onto the field to the song Gangnam Style by Psy – the most successful song to come out of South Korea. Unless an orgy sex tape leaks from the Olympics HPVillage or North Korea blows up everyone I won’t be covering the Winter Olympics again because I can’t have that kind of liability on my résumé. Sorry if this was too negative, I just don’t like things that are tragic stupid and boring.   Photo Credit: Getty Images The post BREAKING: Winter Olympics Already Tragic Stupid And Boring appeared first on WWTDD - What Would Tyler Durden Do?......»»

Zoe Saldana Talks New Digital Media Brand BESE, Which Was Inspired By Her Sons!

The name BESE, [...] Zoe Saldana is changing the game in the digital media world with the recent launch of her new company BESE. The actress created the brand to empower millennial and GenZ Latinos with a platform to share creative original content and stories of their heritage to be distributed across social and digital platforms. The name BESE, which is pronounced “bee-say,” comes from the verb “to be” in two languages – “be” in English and “se” in Spanish. Zoe has said that her sons inspired her to start the company and her mission is to shine a light on the untold stories that reflect today’s America. We caught up with Zoe to learn more about her plans for BESE. Read below! Just Jared: Your sons inspired you to birth BESE, was there a specific A-ha moment that stands out? Are there tools out there for children and kids whose parents want them to embrace Latinx empowerment? Zoe Saldana: It wasn’t a specific A-ha moment, per say, but it was early on in my pregnancy that BESE was also conceived. I felt a desire to see and hear more positive portrayals of multicultural American people in mainstream media. Now more than before we as consumers have a direct access – through our devices – to information that we didn’t have before, and often the information in the content we consume is presented in a negative or stereotypical depiction of people either by their race, gender, class or language of origin. I didn’t want my sons to be put into boxes that they didn’t create for themselves. I want my children to witness equal freedom across the board as they are growing into their own American experience, as Americans. So BESE came out of a personal necessity and a personal desire to help my country, so it can as a result nurture my sons. I think the Latinx community is growing and finding its voice within the American landscape. It is BESE’s hope to be one of the tools that will help many generations and communities feel empowered. Click inside to read the rest of our exclusive interview… JJ: Who are some young role models out there paving the way for Latinx empowerment? Who did you look up to when you were younger? ZS: There are so many talented and successful Latinx role models paving the way today for so many Americans that need to see and hear their stories being told. I think Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emma Gonzalez, Selena Gomez, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, Eva Longoria-Baston, Gabby Rivera, Rosario Dawson, are some of the names that come to mind. But the list is evergreen, not only in the Latinx community but other communities as well. It is BESE’s mission to tell their stories in order to continue cultivating aspiration across our nation. I feel our country needs to know about the people that are looking to bring positive change through their actions and vocations. JJ: Your sons are biracial. Will BESE reach people who are ethnically ambiguous? How do you instill a sense of pride for people of mixed race? ZS: When we are made aware of the social, economic and cultural impact that others who came before us have done, it inspires pride and it gives us a sense of belonging that all Americans need to feel in order for us to continue pursuing our American Dream. The American narrative needs to broaden in order to continue telling stories of great American figures, regardless of who they are, where they came from or how they got here. JJ: Can you share one of your own untold stories that you’d want to tell in video-form on the BESE platform? ZS: I’m working on that right now. It is shaping up to be a very paramount year for me and all that I have accomplished thus far. I cannot wait to share it through BESE. JJ: Which of the characters you’ve played in the past would be vocal members of the BESE community? What stories would they tell? ZS: Well, I’d think and hope all of them would be a voice in the BESE community, even the out of this world characters like Neytiri and Gamora! As for the down to earth characters, Graciela (Live by Night), Eva Rodriguez (Center Stage) stand out. They were all fighting against the odds society had placed for them. They were strong women willing to stand up and work hard for what they believed they could be and accomplish. Go check out BESE now at BESE.com!.....»»

Shangela: The Socialite Life Interview

The most shocking moment in the season premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race occurred […] More Socialite Life debuted back in 2003. SL Flashback showcases some of our favorite content from years past. The most shocking moment in the season premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race occurred when season two contestant Shangela (a/k/a Shangela Laquifa Wadley, the Debutantess of the Deep South) returned to compete for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar”. Although she may not have as much experience as her fellow competitors, she’s surely got just as much heart and passion for performing. You can’t not be in a good mood when you talk to Shangela! We chatted with Shangela about her return to Drag Race, how she got her start as a drag entertainer and her future plans. With her infectious personality and homegrown charm, it’s easy to see how this queen got a second chance to compete for the title! Shangela: Halleloo, somebody! Socialite Life: Halleloo! Hi Shangela! How are you? Shangela: I am fabulous! How are you today? SL: I’m great because I’m talking to you! Shangela: Aww, yay! Thank you for that, I appreciate that. SL: I was so happy to see you come back on RuPaul’s Drag Race Shangela: Well, honey, only half as happy as I was to be back! SL: On the premiere, they made sure to let the viewers (and the other queens) know that you had to audition again to get on Drag Race 3. Shangela: That’s right, just like everyone else! You know, there were tons and tons of applicants – even more than the first two years – this year, so the competition was stiffer. But, you know, I felt like I worked so hard over the last year and why not? I really wanted to come back and show that I am America’s Next Drag Superstar – not because I’m specialized in one specific area, just because I work hard in all of the different areas. I feel like I’ve been in “drag boot camp” over the last year! So, I was excited to put in an audition tape and hopefully come back and I was just lucky that RuPaul felt the same way. SL: What was it like to get that second chance? Shangela: Girl! I’ll tell you this, the day I got the call, I really, really almost didn’t believe it because, going on the show, doing the second season, I’d only been doing drag for five months – and to get a huge honor like that to compete with 12 other of the best divas out there, I already had such a great opportunity. And I was only on one episode, you know this, but I worked it as hard as I could over the next year, just to get better and take what I learned from that one episode and go farther. So, I was like, “I’m going to try this” and to get that call saying “We’re going to bring you back” and you get another shot at this – it’s a second chance at life really. And you play it in your head like, “Okay, what am I going to do better? How am I going to turn this time?”, but it’s so much more pressure too because when you get a second chance, I feel people judge you more critically. View this post on Instagram Last night I joined @EqualityUtah to help raise more than $160,000 for LGBTQ activism and work. Swipe right to see some great pics from the night with @tanfrance @danreynolds of Imagine Dragons @senatorjimdabakis and Savannah, the outspoken young teen that courageously came out to her Mormon church. Let’s keep standing united to end conversion therapy everywhere and make our community even stronger. Halleloo! (And can I take a quick sec to feel my oats about Dan Reynolds standing and jammin to my live performance of Uptown Fish last night lol) A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Nov 4, 2018 at 7:14am PST SL: Was the reaction of the other girls when they first saw you this season creative editing or did they really have those expressions on their faces when they laid eyes on you? Shangela: Girl, if it was creative editing, I need to hire that person to get the reactions for everything I say in life! Those were the most real expressions on their faces – you know, I jump out of a Christmas box – first of all, I look like “jack-in-the-box Shangela” – and I come popping out of this box and to see all of those faces, their jaws were just on the ground. And I thought that – you know me, I’m Shangela, I hug everybody – so I’m like “Hey, I’m back! How is everybody?” and everyone’s looking at me like, “Who? Oh, really?” SL: Do you feel like the competition is stiffer this season? Shangela: Well, you know, I was only there for one episode last season and this year’s girls are a completely different batch from last year’s girls. I can’t really comparatively judge them – but I can tell you that this year’s girls were sickening! Because as more people are competing, Ru and the judges – and everyone who chooses the contestants on the show – they’re having to see everyone pulling out the best of the best. So, definitely, it was a tough competition and these girls are stiff competition, period. SL: So, let’s talk about you. How did you get your start in drag? Shangela: Well, you know, this is pretty much my anniversary month. I’ve been doing drag now for exactly two years but going on the show, I’d only been doing it for 4 months. I kind of fell into it, to be honest with you. I was choreographing a number, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”, for these three guys who were doing a charity event here in West Hollywood and, the night before the guys were to go on, one of them got sick. So they called me and said (of course, I wasn’t Shangela yet), “DJ, is there any way you can help us out? You know all of the steps and we really want to do this as a trio” and I’m thinking, “I don’t have any wigs, I don’t have any makeup.” But…well, you know, I’m gay, honey! So, just a man around the corner has a wig, a dress, something in your size, a bra, some pads…and the next thing you know, I was filling in for him. And the guy who runs the show said, “I would love for you to come back and I would love to book you for our show” and I said “Oh, this isn’t my thing. I’m not a drag performer, I was just filling in” and he said, “You can win money” And girl, you know we’re in a recession! (Laughs) But, to be honest with you, I’ve always been a performer. I’ve been a backup dancer for some of the best drag queens in the business back in Texas and I always watched them and I learned by watching but I just love to entertain. So I say it chose me and I fell into it and now I’m just loving it. View this post on Instagram LaQuifa HOME Collection A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Oct 6, 2018 at 3:17am PDT SL: How did the character of Shangela come to life – and how would you describe her? Shangela: Well, she’s evolved, okay? (Laughs) I’ll tell you this – Shangela is a little bit bougy, but she’s also your homegirl. I’ve always stuck to that and I also have affectionately titled myself “The Debutantess of the Deep South” – and that speaks a lot about Shangela. Shangela is sweet, she’s somewhat refined but she’s also your girl from the block. Anybody you want to call or go out with – the party girl who’s going to tell it like it is – that’s Shangela. SL: I saw you do stand up on Logo and I thought you were hilarious! Is that something you had done before you started doing drag? Shangela: Well, you know, the really cool thing is – and I don’t know if you know this – but before I went on Drag Race, I’d been working a 9-to-5 office life in PR for the last couple of years and, you know, sometimes you just feel – I don’t know if you ever feel like this – but I felt like this just isn’t everything that I want out of my life. It’s great, it works for a lot of people but, for me, I felt almost trapped. I was getting up at seven to be on the road by eight, be at the office by nine and then leave at six, get home at seven, go to bed at ten to get back up at seven – you know? And that was every day of the week and I just felt like when I got the opportunity to go on Drag Race, this was my shot. And my job told me, “If you go there, we’re not going to be able to keep your job for you”, so I quit – in the middle of a recession – and that’s not an easy thing to do but when you have a passion, sometimes you’ve got to step out on a little bit of faith – halleloo! So that’s what I did, and luckily, it worked out really well for me. It opened the door for me. I didn’t go back to work…here’s the thing, when I left to go on Drag Race, I was like, “Baby, yes, I’m going to win this. I’m going to take care of my family and I’m going to be the next drag superstar” – and I went home after the first episode. And I kind of had a little moment of shock like, “Oh my God, what have I done? I quit my job. I don’t have any checks coming in. What’s going on?” – but that opened the door for me to really do what I’m supposed to do with my life – and that’s being an entertainer. I started doing stand up comedy at a couple of clubs here in Los Angeles and they picked me up at The Comedy Store. They said, “We think you’re funny. We want you to come every two weeks.” and from there, they cast me to do stand up comedy and host the Logo comedy special. So all of that’s kind of come as a result of me following my dreams – and starting it with Drag Race. SL: Do you think being able to do stand up is a benefit to your drag career? Shangela: Oh my God, yes! Any time I can be on a stage and perform is a benefit to my career. Any time that I can make someone else laugh or touch someone’s life – because you really don’t know how much laughter impacts our world, it really does. And that’s what I think I bring to my everyday life…you ask my friends, honey, their stomachs are hurting all of the time because we just sit around and laugh! But I love to bring that to the stage so I think that, yeah, being in drag definitely helps me have more experiences that are crazy and funny – and I can take them right to the stage. SL: When you’re on stage, what do you enjoy the most about performing? Shangela: It’s the connection that you get with the audience. You know, a lot of people can put a great look together and get on stage and they look gorgeous and they do their song – if it’s a lip sync – or they do their form of entertainment; but if you don’t connect with the audience, then the people in the audience don’t get the full experience of being at the show. And that’s what I bring every time I hit the stage – that’s what I really want to bring is an experience. It’s not just, “I’m going to see Shangela”. It’s “I’m going to experience Shangela” and that’s what you get! That’s what I love about being on stage, the way you can really connect with people in the audience and have a good time! SL: As far as inspirations for your drag performances – do you have any? Shangela: Oh, definitely! I have so many because I’m new – so everything is so wide-eyed to me. I get so much from so many different people. I look at people’s fashion or I look at the way people bring fire to the stage, there’s always me in the performance but a lot of times – especially makeup, honey! I have a drag mother who I got after I started doing drag – but I used to dance back-up for her. Her name is Alyssa Edwards out of Dallas, Texas. Now she is the most winningest…can I say, bitch? She is the most winningest bitch in captivity, okay? She has won every pageant because she’s refined and what I have in entertainment I’ve had to really try and gather fast to meet that or match it with refinement, with makeup and the ability to sew and create costumes and just to be organized with your drag – because it can be a lot. So, I learned a lot from her. I’ve learned a little from afar by watching Ru as a businessperson – making drag, not just a past time or a hobby – but, as I said, I left my job and this is what I do full-time now. It’s now a business. It’s about marketing, it’s about branding, it’s about connecting to your fans, it’s about being fresh, new and re-inventing yourself – and that’s what I hope to continue to bring. SL: Do you think your background in PR has helped you in your drag career? Shangela: You know, my background in life helps it out! And, I’m just fortunate – definitely the PR piece, because you can go into a meeting and people are talking about, “We’re going to do these t-shirts with you” and you can know that there needs to be a strategy behind just putting some t-shirts together. There needs to be a business model that works with doing everything in drag – you know, a big misconception about drag queens is that this is what they’ve done all of their lives. And there are some drag queens who have – and that’s great for them – but I know drag queens who are attorneys, I know drag queens who, you know, have full, married lives and have children and I know drag queens who are creative in the arts – artists, stylists, everything – we come from all walks of life. So I think a lot of us – including myself – bring what we have from our background and put it into our drag to make us successful. SL: Were you able to learn anything or take anything away from this season’s experience? Shangela: A check! (Laughs) I’m telling you, what I always take away from last year’s experience on Drag Race and this year’s experience on Drag Race is not only the connection, the family with the other girls – because you know there are some catty bitches in that room, okay? There are! And they will fight tooth and nail to get to the top, as when you’re in a competition you sometimes have to. But what the viewers at home don’t get to see is that after the show and even during in the show, we develop such great relationships between a couple of us – and that’s what I love – the sisterhood of drag – because you can’t get far without helping someone else and someone else has to bump you and that’s what I really believe in. I get so many emails and so many calls from new drag queens on the scene – because I think that’s part of the genre of the group that I represent as well because I’m so new – and fierce! I really have to be a role model for them and I think it’s important that we help each other – and, on the show, you don’t get to see it, but we’ve built a great sisterhood there – a family. SL: What kind of advice are you giving to these aspiring drag queens? Shangela: Well, I’d say watch, listen, learn and always do you! That’s it! You can watch a lot of people – but you don’t want to become anyone else – the whole thing about drag is that its self-expression. It’s unleashed, okay? Anything that you think that can’t be done in drag…yes, it can! If you’re a nasty, stank ho and you want to get on the stage…that’s you’re drag – you do you! That’s not Shangela! But you do you! And that’s my advice to all of them. Makeup…that’s the “watch, listen, learn” part – the makeup, the putting yourself together, the hoe to be organized, the how to make it work…but when you get on stage, ain’t nobody there but you and the lights! So you have to do you! SL: Is there a lot of DJ in Shangela? Shangela: Yes, but Shangela takes it to the next level – a different level. In my day-to-day life, I’m entertaining, I’m funny, I love my friends, we have a good time, that kind of thing…yes! Shangela’s more of an all out-there partier. You’re going to see me on the stage at the club, having a good time, toasting it up with the girls. I’m a little bit louder – if you can even imagine that because I’m mighty loud today! But, I just take it up a notch and when you’re a girl – or when you’re putting on an illusion – it’s a full-on illusion to me. When you meet Shangela, you get the Shangela voice, the Shangela essence, the Shangela smell – I mean, I am Juicy Couture fish! I love just putting all of that together as Shangela. Now, in my day-to-day life, I’m not so glamorous all of the time. Right now, I’m just sitting here – I just helped my friend with a photo shoot this morning at the LA river, and I’m very “call me up, I’ll help anyone” and I was holding a reflector, I’ve got my hair snatched back in a bun with a baseball cap on with sunglasses – that’s the farthest thing from glamour that you can get! But you’ll never see Shangela in a pair of sweats – I don’t even show up at the club in a pair of tennis shoes, no ma’am! SL: What do you think separates you from the other queens this season? View this post on Instagram #AStarIsBorn #UKPremiere Dress: @diegomontoya3d; Styled by: @derekanthonypurcell Hair: @ashleiiman; Hair Styled by @justmaydoes; Jewelry: Maria Isabel; Body Bronzer: @bludline A post shared by Shangela (DJ) (@itsshangela) on Sep 27, 2018 at 2:13pm PDT Shangela: We’re all very, very different. You’ve seen the first episode, you can already see a lot of the really sharp differences. I think what sets me apart is that…well, two things. One, I’ve been in this setting before, so I feel like I have something to prove this time around. So, the fire in me, I feel is burning a little bit brighter – it’s a little bit hotter because I feel like I have so much to prove…I have a huge weight on my shoulders, being brought back to represent those who haven’t been doing it for a long time, to say it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing something, you can still rock it and you can be the fiercest bitch in the room! It’s not years of experience, it’s how hard you’re willing to work, and I think that’s what really sets me apart in this room is that I’m here to work – and that is W-E-R-Q! – with the exclamation point! I’m going to work, so I think that’s what sets me apart. I don’t want to be the baby of the group this time around even though I have the least amount of experience in drag. I’m nobody’s baby. My years of experience are less than the other girls, but then again, the fire is burning hot and somebody better step back or you’re going to get burned! SL: What would people be surprised to know about you? Shangela: I’m a very open book, a lot of people don’t know that I’m from Paris, Texas. I tell everyone that as soon as I meet them, but they look at me and say, “You don’t have a Texas twang.” Well, you know, give me a bucket of chicken and a Coca-Cola and the next thing you know, I’m just as country as can be! But, I am from Paris, Texas. It’s a very small town and I grew up with my grandparents and my Mom came back from the military and I grew up with her in a single-family home and I really worked a lot to have the experiences in my life that I’ve had. But you wouldn’t know that I’ve worked on the hill for a year or that I studied abroad in Madrid in art history…nobody wants to know all of that, they just want to see what you have on the stage. But there are so many layers to me, and I love just sharing a lot and everything about me, so there’s not a lot people don’t know about me – if you choose to get to know me. SL: How would you describe your look? Shangela: Sickening – that’s pretty much the way you would describe my look! To be honest with you, I think that my look just…there’s so many looks because it’s drag…the everyday Shangela is glamour and homegirl – all together. It’s glamour girl from the streets – because, with me, I always keep it real. I can have on the Alexander McQueen, straight off the runway, and look fish sickening boots – and we can still roll in that to the Taco Bell. That’s who I am and that essence of me keeping it real just comes with everything – and I think that’s the best way that you can connect with people – there are no walls, there is no diva attitude – I am a diva, make no mistake, when I come into a room, I feel like it’s important to say, “I’m here”, but you don’t have to say that out loud to do that, you just have to walk in and be – and that’s Shangela. SL: What does the future hold for Shangela? Shangela: Well, specifically, on the show, I want to win – so, my aspiration is to go home as America’s Next Drag Superstar. In addition to that, I really just want to be able to show that there’s so many different talents to drag queens to me, as Shangela, that I hope I’m able to express to the full extent on the show. I’m a comedian, I’m an entertainer, I’m a host – I would love after the show to go on and represent – whether it be brands or a show host, having someone sitting on my couch every week and keeping it real and talking. Be the Andy Cohen, have a Life on the D List – I live here in Los Angeles and I am a diva on the rise. So, with all of those experiences, people should be able to see those and experience those as well and hopefully, one day, I’ll have a platform to share that with them. SL: Do you have any interest in a singing career? Shangela: You know, I think that a lot of girls have done great with their careers, from season two especially – and season one. I know that my sister Sahara Davenport just put out a new single “Pump with Me” which is kick-ass, it’s a dance track. And I love to sing, I’m a Tina Turner fanatic. But I think where I’m going to start is by doing a one-woman show and my calling is entertaining people, making people laugh. Whether it’s singing, putting out a hot dance track – you know, I can disco dance – and I love the Pussycat Dolls – bringing that kind of fire to the stage. But I’m really going to focus on entertaining any way I can right now. If it comes later in a song, it comes later in a song – but I’ve got to write it, it’s got to come from me because I feel that only I can really have my voice and we’re just going to work it out. SL: Are you going to continue doing stand up? Shangela: Yes! Most definitely. I’m bringing a show to New York, I think it’s going to be at Caroline’s on Broadway later this spring so I’m really about that. I work here at The Comedy Store and we just started a new night at Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood, and I’m hosting that show as well. You know, I do those shows in drag and out of drag and it’s always a good time! SL: Are you planning on touring after the show? Shangela: Oh, honey, I’m touring! I just launched a new website, Shangela.com – please send everybody and their grandmother to it! It has my entire touring schedule there. I’m on the move, honey! SL: Besides your website, is there any other way fans can keep in touch with you? Shangela: Most definitely! You know, I’m a Tweet from the street, girl! You can follow me on Twitter @itsShangela and on my Facebook fan page! Oh, my God, I have to tell you about the new film! I’m in this new film, as Shangela, called Body of a Barbie, okay? It’s a short film we produced in Los Angeles and it got picked up by BET, it aired last fall, and it’s actually now in the top seven finalists of the BET Lens on Talent program. So, they had this huge competition for short films and our film was in the top seven in the US. It’s called Body of a Barbie and it’ll be back on BET this spring and I’m really excited about that. SL: Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I thought you were awesome on Terriers! Shangela: Oh, thank you! That was my first guest starring role and the writers were so awesome. You know, when I auditioned, I was only on three pages of script, and when I got to San Diego to film it, they thought that the character needed more involvement in the show and it went from three pages to 28 pages of a 42 page script and I wanted to bring the fire, because that episode was directed by Adam Arkin and he was fabulous to work with and they were so great and so respectful and I got to be in drag and out of drag and it’s done a lot of great things for me. Actually, I’m going to be on an episode of this show on ABC called Detroit 1-8-7. We just shot that – me, Coco Peru and Jai Rodriguez – and it airs February 15th on ABC. SL: Thank you so much for your time and good luck with everything! Shangela: Aww, thank you! I wish I could give you a big hug! Halleloo! This article was originally published on January 25, 2011. Gambling and Some Interesting Celebrity Breaks

Gambling is something which is considered a luxury sport. It is a pastime and an occasion for many people to network and grow. Many people have had great fortune through gambling and have become celebrities from rags. However, there have been many other stories which have made rags out of celebrities, too. It’s interesting to know how addicted our role models could be to gamble that they end up earning for gambling, sacrifice, family/relationships for gambling and what-not. So, let’s not waste time and talk about some interesting celebrity stories, which you might not have known. 1. Tiger Woods Well who does not like Tiger Woods and when did Tiger need introductions anyway? But the habit of gambling by Tiger might be unexplored. As per our sources, Tiger was introduced to gambling by Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley. Gambling became an addiction soon when he started hanging out with Michael and Charles a little too much. It is rumored that Tiger has a whopping $1 million limit in most reputable casinos in Vegas. Well, now you know where Tiger’s whopping brand endorsements and high golf contract prices are ending up. Also, Tiger does not believe in playing for smaller amounts and usually takes part in high stakes games of at least $25,000. Tiger highly appreciated his kind of table set up in casinos. The Mansion at MGM Grand Las Vegas is his favorite gambling destination. He has always loved a table for himself that was surrounded by party girls. Gambling and tables surrounded by party girls were one of the prime reasons that cost Tiger a divorce from his wife. Considering the expense of divorce which cost about $750 million and a relationship, gambling was a costly choice made by the famous golfer. 2. Michael Phelps Michael Phelps is one of the greatest swimmers the world has ever known. He is a famous Olympian who has won 28 Olympic medals for his country and has brought so much glory to his country and himself. This is the highest number of Olympic medals any individual has won, which is what has brought the swimmer a peaceful retirement life in his early thirties. He is retired now and is just 32 years of age but has achieved remarkable heights which certainly will define him for a lifetime. But, one lesser known fact or habit of Michael was gambling. He had a habit of not accepting defeat and a ‘try until you win’ attitude, which earned him a lot of success at Olympics. However, this isn’t the case with gambling. If you lose, you continue to lose heavily, and it is all about luck and fortune as the results are not directly proportional to the attempts or efforts. It took loads of time for Michael to understand this and sources say that he was into gambling so much that it sometimes happened for eight straight hours. This problem persisted with Michael during 2012. He was also caught for drinking and driving near a casino in Maryland, where he was probably stressed after a straight eight hours of continuous gambling. His life had become very stressed as he wasn’t used to losing and was desperate to win no matter what it had cost. This kept pushing him to despair. Somehow with the help of his friends and close ones, he came out of the gambling habit and now is leaving a peaceful and comfortable life. 3. Tobey Maguire Tobey the on-screen Spider-Man is as cool and smart in the real life as he is in his movies. He took some tips from a poker player Daniel Negreanu and turned out to make a fortune of $10 million. As per his close friends, tips from Daniel who is a professional poker player helped him make over $10 million. He also participated in a World Series of Poker tournament, which was the time when he encountered Daniel who probably changed his fortune. But, Tobey’s gambling habits got him to a legal hurdle. He, with some of the other influential celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck, were found to be participating in underground poker games, which are considered illegal due to the unaccounted money at stake. In the year, 2011 Tobey faced a lawsuit for organizing an illegal ring of underground poker. He didn’t take a financial loss due to gambling but a lawsuit against the Spider-Man certainly harmed his popularity. But, compared to other celebrities on the list, Tobey certainly gained a lot more than he lost due to gambling! 4. Allen Iverson Allen Iverson is a very famous professional basketball champion. The basketball player has retired now but played 14 seasons in NBA tournaments. Gambling had brought him loads of trouble for which Allen who was nicknamed as ‘The Answer’ had no answers. His case was probably the reverse of Tobey. Allen managed to lose over $200 million through gambling. Yes, you read it right — $200 million — only through gambling. This famous basketball player had received several heights in his career and received contracts of a lifetime from Reebok. However, due to gambling, he had lost a great deal of his money and was in severe debt and literally had to beg his teammates to pay off such a debt. Also, during the end of his career, he lost the lifetime contract from Reebok as his gambling debts and other negative news reports started surfacing. Allen’s wife filed for divorce and a statement by Allen read that he does not even have money to buy a cheeseburger and hence, he cannot afford any alimony. Casinos in Atlantic City and Detroit had banned Allen due to his inability to pay off his debts. This is a true story of a hero to zero only because of gambling! 5. Ben Affleck We had Ben Affleck’s name popping up with Spider-Man Tobey. The ‘Batman’ actor who will be seen in more ‘Justice League’ movies has had his share of gambling issues. His gambling venture wasn’t so beneficial as the super hit 2013 movie ‘Runner, Runner’ and is rumored to have been to a rehab center to come outside or quit the habit of gambling. His interest towards gambling is natural as he won the CA State Poker Championship in 2004. He is also fond of the game blackjack. We are not sure of the financials, but Ben was exposed to quite some mental pressure due to gambling. 6. Ray Romano Ray is an actor, stand-up comedian, and is known for the popular TV show, ‘Everybody Loves Raymond.’ He has also received an Emmy award for his role in the hit TV show. He has given his voice for Manny in the ‘Ice Age’ movies. The 60-year-old actor was one of the first actors who began receiving huge paychecks for TV shows. In 2009, he went on to produce a show called ‘Men of a Certain Age.’ The show had a character named ‘Joe’ who was a gambling addict and he tried his best to stay away from it as much as possible. It was a surprise to note that the character of Joe was based on Ray himself, which was something the actor later admitted. Ray still participates in several poker events, but he now knows about his limited skill sets and hopefully is only doing so for fun or as a leisure activity. He isn’t going to casinos now and prefers online poker and similar gambling in smaller amounts. As revealed in the TV series based on Ray himself, he used to seek help from different people anonymously when the gambling debt took over his financial peace. 7. Joe Francis Joe Francis the ever so controversial film producer named for many controversies and publicities. The businessman had been accused by several actresses for casting couch and inappropriate behavior. He is best known for the ‘Girls Gone Wild’ series. Wynn Hotels and others have filed a legal suit against him for unpaid gambling debts. Allegedly or surprisingly, the debt of over $2 million Wynn was given a discount of about 30 percent. 8. John McCain John is a sort of political celebrity in the United States as a senior senator in the state of Arizona. At over 80 years of age, John was a Republican candidate in the 2008 elections against Barack Obama. However, from sources and close friends, it was learned that John had at a time in his life been very addicted to gambling. A stretch of eight hours of gambling and ten hours of poker all are in shame where John had stretched for over 14-16 hours on the table. The extent to which he was attached to gambling was worrying and it certainly affected his choices during his senior senator regime. 9. Charlie Sheen Charlie Sheen has given us many entrepreneurs or trading goals by his role in the very famous movie ‘Wall Street.’ With a bucket of hit films and tremendous fan following, Charlie is one of the most controversial actors that the industry has ever known. He has recently surfaced for non-payment of taxes. He owes over $5 million in taxes which is a huge problem, especially for such a celebrity. He is also known for various other controversies that include drugs, alcohol, women, etc. Now coming to his gambling updates, he is known to be a huge gambling addict as revealed by his former spouse during his divorce case. Charlie was in contact with a bookie even while transporting his wife to the hospital while she was pregnant before the birth of his daughter. Clearly, gambling had gained the highest priority in his life over the welcoming of his own daughter and this certainly weakened his personal family ties. Also, the report exposed that Charlie in his peak lost over $200,000 every week — all thanks to gambling. This surfaced in 2006 and about eight years later, Charlie told his fans and the media that he has overcome gambling and doesn’t do it anymore. But controversies still follow him with tax evasion and non-payment and we hope he loses all of his bad habits soon. 10. Charles Barkley Another basketball player who has lost huge in gambling is Charles Barkley. After retirement, Charlies is working as an analyst in the NBA tournament. The 55-year-old also had been struggling due to gambling. Charles confessed to having lost about $30 million because of his gambling addiction. He also took counseling and then a break for two years from gambling but is a very difficult addiction, he is back to gambling now. Now he admits to gambling in casinos but in a much more controlled, monitored, and restricted manner. You never know, you might have new news story surfacing about a new gambling debt from Charles, as gambling is a galloping enterprise and you are always playing with trouble. Let’s Learn from Celebrities and Let’s Go Gambling Big celebrities have been in huge gambling troubles and it is certainly worthy to learn from their experiences and be as distant as possible from gambling activities. We have seen many stories and there are very few people who have made a fortune from gambling. Most importantly, we must make sure it never becomes a habit and addiction. Addiction to any activity can be very harmful and these celebrities have already experienced these issues. If people at such heights are not spared by a gambling addiction, it is very difficult for us to remain sheltered. So, to end the celebrity gambling league, gambling occasionally isn’t bad, but making it a source of income, or a habit or addiction should be avoided. [Photo Credit: Pixabay].....»»

Disney Alum Tiffany Thornton Gets Married Two Years After Tragic Passing Of Her First Husband

Nearly two years since the Disney star's husband Chris Carney tragically died in a car accident, she married her fiancé in a sweet ceremony over the weekend! Related: Khloé Kardashian Is Open To Marrying Her Baby Daddy On Saturday, the former Sonny With a Chance actress married worship pastor Josiah Capaci on Saturday after getting engaged two months ago. Thankfully, she shared plenty of pics for fans to see! 💗 You are the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. I'll love you forever. 💗A post shared by Tiffany Thornton (@tiffthornton) on Oct 7, 2017 at 8:39pm PDT Sadly for Tiffany, many commenters came after her for marrying what they feel is too soon after her husband's passing - but she wasn't having any of it! In another post, she shared about their love: This. This is love. That all encompassing, enduring, accepting, near perfect love. The kind that trumps my need to snap back at people who have the audacity to comment on my Instagram about whether I loved my first husband or not. But let me take a moment to explain something to you. There is no timeline for grief or for when God moves in your life in undeniable ways. There are a lot of people who think it isn't good to be transparent on social media but I say forget that. I'm going to be open and honest because God wants me to. It's part of my testimony and it needs to be said. I was a mess yesterday during our wedding ceremony. So many emotions flooded my heart as I walked down those balcony steps to the arms of my gift from God. I thought of Chris watching us and knowing he would have loved the choice I made, for me and for the boys. I thought of Chris's amazing parents sitting front row and how much of a blessing they have been and will forever be in our lives. How happy they are for the boys and I and how much they already love Josiah. I am so completely humbled by the love I receive from this man. Jo came along EXACTLY when God knew I needed him. It wasn't my choice to fall in love so quickly after chris passed but I was growing so comfortable with being alone that it was becoming unhealthy. Looking back now I think God saw that if I went too long without love that it would become increasingly difficult for me to submit to the authority of a husband after being set in my own ways. When I say "Jo is the greatest thing that's ever happened to me" that in no way indicates that I didn't love my first husband with all that I had. How dare any one of you judge me and say that on a social platform. It doesn't make you any better of a person to cast judgment on others and sit in the seat of mockers. I will always love chris and jo knows that. And I will always love Jo. The beautiful thing about love is that it multiplies as new blessings come into your life. I don't have to share one bucket of love with the special people in my life. Each one has their own bucket. Get it? Isn't that amazing?? God's timing is not our own. And I praise Him for that. You should too.A post shared by Tiffany Thornton (@tiffthornton) on Oct 8, 2017 at 6:49am PDT Congrats to the happy couple! [Image via Instagram.].....»»

Just Jared had the chance to catch up with the 31-year-old British-Malaysian actor and we put his real life dumpling making skills to the test! This summer, Henry joined Just Jared‘s Jared Eng at the award-winning Taiwanese restaurant Din Tai Fung at the Westfield Mall in Century City, Calif. Henry whipped up a batch of soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and we chatted about Crazy Rich Asians, which is in theaters TODAY! During our exclusive interview, Henry spoke about how he landed the lead role of Nick Young in Crazy Rich Asians, and how he actually had to hastily cut his honeymoon short to screen test for the role! Henry told JJ, “[Director Jon Chu] reached out and it was two questions. He said, ‘Will you read for me?’ I was like, ‘Of course!’ An opportunity like that doesn’t come around very often. And so I taped twice and then they flew me over for a chemistry read with Constance [Wu], I came home, I was on my honeymoon in South Africa where they’re like, ‘We gotta pull you because Warner Bros. wants to–’ They had three people in mind. I was one of them, they had a screen test for all three of us, and then it took them three weeks of decision making to finally come up with an answer.” Click inside to read the full, exclusive interview with Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding… Henry Golding – Full Exclusive Interview JJ: Have you eaten at Din Tai Fung before? HENRY: I come religiously. Because we live in Singapore, around the corner of my house, I can walk to one in less than seven minutes. So me and my wife go a lot actually! JJ: Since you are part Asian, your taste buds must be nuanced. Do you favor one type of Asian Cuisine over another? HENRY: Thai food has been a big, consistent cuisine that we veer toward, then Chinese cuisine but Malaysian cuisine, where I’m from, is so mixed in cultures. There’s the Chinese, Indian, Malay, so it kind of encompasses all sorts of flavors [and] herbs. Singaporean and Malaysian food are some of the best foods in the world. JJ: What’s your favorite Asian food? Non Asian food? HENRY: A proper hearty pad thai. Like, big prawns or nice chunks of meat in there. And nothing beats steak and kidney pie with mashed potatoes and gravy. It’s like my favorite comfort food. JJ: Have you ever cooked pad thai yourself? HENRY: (laughs) We have attempted in the past, and it’s the fact that you have to use a lot of sugar. There’s a tremendous amount of sugar in Asian food and usually when you’re cooking at home, you try to cut down on the salt and sugar intake, so it never tastes the same. We even get tamarind paste to make sure the fish sauce is right, but if you don’t use enough sugar, it just doesn’t have the same taste. (laughs) JJ: So is there a not a healthy version of pad thai that’s really good? HENRY: Not that I’ve come across. I’ve had plenty of disappointing pad thais! JJ: What was it like growing up in Malaysia? HENRY: I was born in Sarawak in Eastern Malaysia, so I’m from a tribal culture where my family would go into the jungle and harvest from the jungle. Or we would have rice fields. Or, one of the big things they grow is pepper and they would pick the pepper berries and dry them and sell them. It was always about running around in the jungle, chasing chickens, my brother bullying me, and finding things to entertain ourselves through the summers. JJ: Did you feel fully Malaysian even though you were half? Were you treated any differently? HENRY: As a kid, you don’t know what race was but I always knew my dad was obviously a white guy. It was only until I moved as a kid to England when I was about 9 or 10-years-old. There was obviously, back in those days, not a lot of immigration so racism was prevalent, especially in outer London. I was called everything under the sun from Ching to Packie to everything! Because kids just don’t understand, especially in those days. And I was like, “Hold on…” That was when I realized I was different, and I was like, “I’m seen as Asian in the UK, but I’m seen as a foreigner back in Malaysia. What are my ancestral roots?” and I chose to be proud of both! But up until now I’ve represented more with my Asian side. I’ve lived in Asia for the past eleven years now. When everybody was like, “That guy’s not Asian, like, he’s half Asian!”, thanks to question of ,“What is the litmus test of being able to claim that you’re Asian or being proud of your ancestry?” Is it the fact that you’re full-blooded but you’ve never been to Asia? Does that discount you as not being Asian enough? Or is it that you’re half-blooded but you’ve grown up in Asia, but genetically you’re not categorized as Asian? So there were so many questions and there’s never a right answer. It’s what you feel as a person, and what you identify with is the most important thing. What you take pride with in and the cultures that you embrace, that’s totally up to you. JJ: You’ve lived in Malaysia and New York. Would you ever live in L.A.? HENRY: Yeah! My wife and I have been thinking about moving here. Singapore at the moment is wonderful, we love it. This would bring me closer to work. Might be a bad thing, might be a good thing. But California seems to have brilliant weather. I’ve been sweating my balls off for the past ten years (laughs) in humidity which is ridiculous. So it would be nice to have this beautiful weather and go outside and be able to wear a jacket, and obviously, there’s a lot of freedom over here. JJ: Are there any Malaysian traditions that you still practice today? HENRY: Every year there’s a festival. It’s mainly for Sarawak, where I’m from, that the tribes celebrate the Gawai which is the end of rice harvest. So once everybody’s done with the rices to ripen, they thrash the rice, pick it up, and then they celebrate for a new year. And that’s how they would distinguish a new year–the harvest of rice was finished. The celebration was to clear the air, clear the spirits, a lot of drinking involved, a lot of merry-making and singing, and it’s still a practice today. They defined it around the end of May/beginning of June. JJ: They always say that birds sort of flock together. Do HAPA people attract other HAPA people? HENRY: I personally have more friends from all the different races, and so it’s not true. My wife’s half as well and so I can’t really get away from that (laughs). She’s Italian-Taiwanese. But I don’t have outrageous amounts of HAPA friends, and even the word HAPA was new to me. Like, we call it the Eur-Asian, but it’s like a Hawaiian word for half and half, well, half-race. JJ: Crazy Rich Asians. Did you get to read the book before you started? Have you been a fan before? HENRY: Mm! So I read the book just before [director Jon Chu] got in contact with me. JJ: How did you first hear about CRA? HENRY: I think it was back in 2013 or something ridiculous when Warner Bros. bought the rights to it and there was a big buzz in the Asian community, especially in Singapore and Asia because it’s about a Singaporean story. A lot of actors and good friends were like, “They’re going to make a massive film out of it! It’s going to be set in Singapore. Kevin Kwan wrote it.” I heard about it and was like, “Aw man, this is amazing!” but I was a presenter at the time so I was like, “Someone’s going to have a fantastic f–king time!” I didn’t even think about it to be me. And then, it wasn’t until the 11th hour that they had to choose the actor to be Nick Young, and [director Jon Chu] had seen literally every male Asian actor. He has this database which is ridiculous–everybody on tape–because everybody submitted for it! It was the catch of the century pretty much, especially for Asians, and my name got passed to him right at the last minute because he still didn’t believe that he had found someone who could represent this character thoughtfully and with realness. He reached out and it was two questions. He said, “Will you read for me?” I was like, “Of course!” An opportunity like that doesn’t come around very often. And so I taped twice and then they flew me over for a chemistry read with Constance (Wu), I came home, I was on my honeymoon in South Africa where they’re like, “We gotta pull you because Warner Bros. wants to–” They had three people in mind. I was one of them, they had a screen test for all three of us, and then it took them three weeks of decision making to finally come up with an answer. JJ: Was there a scene that made you really nervous or really excited to shoot? HENRY: Everything with Michelle [Yeoh] was so exciting. Michelle is like the ultimate hero of everybody growing up, and she’s a fellow Malaysian as well, so it was that much more meaningful. We shared such beautiful and heartfelt scenes together. It really funnels her true drive for why she’s being so mean in the story. So, Michelle. Phenomenal. JJ: Are you friends with any real life crazy rich Asians? HENRY: To be honest, it’s a small community in Singapore and I don’t personally have close friends who are–I know of and are acquaintances with people from rich families. So I don’t have friends who whisk me off on private jets pretty much. I wish sometimes I did, but it’s sadly not the case. JJ: What’s something most people don’t know about Awkwafina? Have you seen her in Ocean’s 8 yet? HENRY: She is (laughs) everything you see on her Instagram – it’s exactly how she is in real life. How she commentates her stories is the exact thought process behind her every day. She’s one of the most entertaining human beings I’ve ever met, and one with such a big heart. I couldn’t speak anymore highly about her. She is blowing up right now! JJ: Do you have a favorite memory of her on set? HENRY: I came out first with Constance Wu for pre-production and slowly other people trickled in. The first to arrive was Nora! And I was like, “Oh you know, I’m going to welcome her. I’m sure she’s like out of place and I know the area really well since I used to live here. So I find out her room and knock on the door. I was like, “Hey! I’m Henry, I’m working on Crazy Rich Asians as well!” and she’s like, “Damn! They got some handsome assistant directors on this show!” (laughs). And I was like, “Oh, no… I’m playing Nick!” And she’s just like “Ohhhh”. (laughs) I’ll never forget that! JJ: Do you have any favorite Asian or Asian American actors and singers? HENRY: John Cho. Back in the day, Jason Scott Lee was the first real Hollywood leading man. He was the lead in so many big Hollywood movies–Enter The Dragon. But John Poseman breaking the boundaries when it comes to casting and acting like in this brilliant film coming out, Searching. And of course, Michelle [Yeoh], man. She’s had such an illustrious career but stayed so grounded and so humble and hardworking throughout the entire period. JJ: Have you always dreamed of becoming an actor? How did you get into presenting? HENRY: Mhm! I always knew that I would love to get into acting at some point. It was always in the back of my head, but I knew it would be at the right mental state or readiness I wanted to have lived and travelled and experienced as much as possible. And then when I was ready mentally I would get into it. And actually 3-4 years ago, I did a little semester and it was like a Meisner technique sort of a crash course. And I was like, “Wow, this year I’m going to dedicate the rest of this year doing some of my shorts and doing some films and stuff, and then I got offered a BBC gig called The Travel Show and I was like, “Well, it looks like fate has some other plans for me.” BBC is like the pinnacle of all journalism, so I was just like, “I’ve got to do this!” JJ: What was your first presenting/hosting gig? HENRY: I moved in 2008 to Malaysia. A show called The Quickie was a live magazine mish-mash of new music, what’s going on in the week, but it was twenty minutes every single night, live. Then I was on ESPN for Football Journalism which is a soccer show which highlighted the week’s football. And then, I started in travel shows with poor casting in Malaysia. I did like four or five seasons of travel shows; New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, and around Europe. And then, the BBC stuff happened and that was global, and then, Discovery Channel Asia. So I’ve had, like, a good extensive 7-8 years of hosting stuff. JJ: Did you acting agents and managers before Crazy Rich Asians or did you get signed afterwards? HENRY: I got signed afterward, yeah. Right now, especially with open ethnicity being discussed, there’s more chances and that they’re realizing now that people have stories to tell, and that’s what’s more important than being an outrageously handsome guy or the blond haired, blue eyes. That’s not what’s pulling in tickets anymore, it’s about having that je ne sais quoi–that aura that gravitas, and people are finding that elsewhere. Look at Timothee Chamelet–he’s phenomenal! But he’s not the traditionally handsome, tall beefcake kind of dude. But f–k can he act, you know? Stuff like that, I love. JJ: What would you say to an aspiring Asian-American actor or actress who might want to get into the business? HENRY: Put yourself out there. Prepare yourself by being proactive. There’s no use waiting for a role to come when you create a role. Create the stories with your friends. Start, write a script. Don’t wait. That’s what I’ve learned is that you cannot wait on your ass for something to be handed to you. You gotta work for it. You gotta put the idea in front of someone, and for them to say, “Oh s–t, actually this could work!” You never know. So just stay sharp and just be prepared for when it does break. And when it comes, work hard. Opportunities don’t come fast and quick. JJ: Your wife is a presenter as well. Is she on the same track as you, presenting until she is ready to become an actor? Do you think she’ll make a transition to acting as well? HENRY: She’s very happy not being an actor. She did a little bit of acting in Singapore–she didn’t like it. So she’s probably happy for me to do that (laughs)......»»

Robert Rodriguez Says He Cast Rose McGowan In Grindhouse To SPITE Harvey Weinstein — And The Movie Got "Buried" Because Of Her!

We've heard lots of stories over the past couple weeks from women Harvey Weinstein scared into silence. But what would have happened if they fought back? But what would have happened if they fought back? Video: Rose McGowan's Powerful Speech At The Detroit Women's Convention According to Robert Rodriguez, he did try to help Rose McGowan beat Harvey's "blacklisting" of her -- by casting her in his Weinstein Company-funded film Grindhouse. In fact, in an official essay for Variety, he reveals the plot of his half of the throwback double feature with Quentin Tarantino was inspired by her story, something he could never talk about before: "I have not previously discussed what I knew about the 1997 incident that Rose suffered in a hotel room during the Sundance Film Festival. I never wanted to do anything that jeopardized a legal settlement she entered into with Harvey Weinstein. Now that she's able to tell her story, I want to provide an account of what I knew, when I knew it, and what I did about it." Rodriguez says he first learned of her "blacklisting" at Cannes in 2005, when she explained to him why she hadn't auditioned for Sin City. She told him the whole story of the assault -- and the subsequent legal action: "Rose told me that all she could do at the time was to get Harvey Weinstein to donate money to an abused women's shelter and in return she had to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that forbade her from talking about the horrific violation without being sued, and that she shouldn't even be telling me. To add insult to injury, she told me that she was blacklisted from even auditioning for any Weinstein movies." That's when the director got PISSED -- and decided to go renegade: "I then revealed to Rose right then and there that I was about to start writing a movie with Quentin Tarantino, a double feature throwback to 70's exploitation movies, and that if she was interested, I would write her a BAD ASS character and make her one of the leads. I wanted her to have a starring role in a big movie to take her OFF the blacklist, and the best part is that we would have Harvey's new Weinstein Company pay for the whole damn thing." But they got to throw it in Harvey's face sooner than they were expecting: "Just as I finished telling Rose this, I saw Harvey walking around the party! I called Harvey over to our table, and as soon as he got close enough to see that I was sitting with Rose, his face dropped and went ghostly white. I said, "Hey Harvey, this is Rose McGowan. I think she's amazing and really talented and I'm going to cast her in my next movie." Harvey then dribbled all over himself in the most over the top performance I'd ever seen as he gushed, "Oh she's wonderful, oh she's amazing, oh she's fantastic, oh she's so talented… You two should definitely work together." And then he skittered off. I knew right then that every word Rose told me was true, you could see it all over his face." They made the film, a star-studded, strangely meta movie that played like two '70s B movies, complete with fake trailers for other movies made by friends like Eli Roth and Edgar Wright. It was crazy and long and ahead of its time -- and Rose is spectacular in it. Unfortunately it completely tanked at the box office. Rodriguez still believes Harvey's vendetta against Rose is what kept the movie from even being given a fighting chance with a proper ad campaign, etc. He explains: "But because of the NDA Rose told me she had signed, at Rose's request I had to keep it quiet from everyone until now as to why we were even making that film together, especially Harvey. We knew that strategically we couldn't rub it in his face why we were REALLY doing this movie, because then he'd just bury the movie, not sell it well, and everyone would lose. To our horror, Harvey buried our movie anyway, and because we did not want to risk getting sued, we never spoke publicly about the matter... I am still haunted and disillusioned that after all the good intentions, immense pain and struggle Rose and I and so many talented people went through to make the film, that Harvey Weinstein won in the end by burying the movie just because Rose was the lead actress." Robert wishes they could have spoken about the inspiration of the film, the fight behind the scenes before now. And he hopes this new conversation will change things in Hollywood and other businesses: "It's been really difficult to admit and come to terms that the NDA handcuffs forced us to needlessly jump through hoops that today would have been unnecessary because of Rose's fearlessness to speak out, despite the consequences. I hope that new legislation will result in NDAs to be legally null and void in situations where rape and assault have been committed and where power is so unequally distributed." Hear, hear! "Looking back over the years, I have wondered if I would have made the same choices, knowing the bleak outcome. We all suffered greatly on the film, and the journey ended up costing us all more than we ever bargained for. For me personally, it cost me my marriage of 16 years, my family, a large dose of sanity, and for years I have grappled with the sobering idea that maybe I made a grave error in standing up at all, when no one was even asking me to." OK, we have to stop right there -- was it really the movie failing at the box office that cost you your marriage, Robert? Or did dating your star do it? In case you didn't know, Robert and Rose went public with their relationship when the movie came out -- immediately after news of his split with his wife, Elizabeth Avellan, hit. Photos: 10 Movies That Ruined Celebrity Relationships Not the point, we know, but gotta be honest here. Anyway, go on: "I know that's not the message I'd ever want to send out, but it's been hard to justify something that now is clear was a lose/lose situation from the get-go, and that in the end failed and simply caused more damage. The reason I'm saying this is because it's very clear to me now that when someone does what Harvey Weinstein did, the devastation goes far beyond predator and victim. These past few weeks have given me new clarity and hope by seeing the tide finally turn, seeing Harvey finally on the run, and seeing all the brave women who have come forth with their own shocking and distressing stories of abuse. Since I've seen a distinct lack of stories coming from men who may have tried to do the right thing, I wanted to come forth to say that no matter the consequences, no matter how far you have to stick your neck out, no matter what you have to lose, that we must fight the good fight. Everyone has to make a stand and take action." Damn right they do! Because two against the world isn't enough. This fight needs to be ALL of us against them. [Image via Z.
