The picture made $17.1 million in its first weekend, coming in at #3 and beating out higher profile films A Wrinkle in Time and Love, Simon. The picture is based on MercyMe member Bart Millard’s (J. Michael Finley) relationship with his abusive father (Dennis Quaid). These trying times served as the basis for the hit song “I Can Only Imagine.” Co-star Madeline Carroll (The Magic of Belle Isle, Flipped) plays Bart’s youthful love (and eventual wife) Shannon, and for Carroll the project was an inspired experience. “It’s so beautiful to watch,” said Carroll. “I feel like the whole film has this peace about it that is so wonderful. I had the best time. I couldn’t have asked for a better set to be on, especially from having taken a break for so long to come back and do a film was really so special and beautiful for me.” Click on the media bar to hear Carroll reflect on how she landed her role in I Can Only Imagine.” I Can Only Imagine co-stars Nicole DuPort and Trace Adkins. Blessed with a beautiful voice and innate charm, Cravalho is now part of the ensemble of the new NBC series Rise. The story, set in a Pennsylvania town, focuses on the controversial production of Spring Awakening at the local high school. Cravalho is Lilette Suarez, a teenager raised in a single parent household who lands the lead in the musical. For Cravalho it is singing and not acting that serves as her foundation, and now she’s opening her horizons with Rise. “I find myself able to show emotion through my voice a lot easier than I am through my face or through any type of physical expression,” said Cravalho. “It’s a lot harder for me . . . and so there’s a beautiful emotional aspect that can come through in Moana because it kind of came naturally to me that although I don’t know what my face is doing, I can sing from a place of realness.
